Bulbophyllum auratum f. flava

A spectacular epiphyte from the tropical forests of Southeast Asia, producing dense globose umbels in which numerous flowers display extraordinarily long, fleshy sepals that curl and coil inward into a compact, medusa-like mass, their margins adorned with fine white cilia. It grows with a creeping rhizome and well-spaced pseudobulbs, each topped by a single firm, leathery leaf.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 50–60% shade cloth; avoid harsh direct sun to protect the foliage and pseudobulbs.
  • Temperature: 60–82°F (16–28°C); an Intermediate to Warm grower with a minimum tolerance around 55°F (13°C).
  • Humidity: 70–85%; mount or grow in a basket with excellent air movement to keep roots and rhizome healthy.
  • Watering: Water regularly during active growth, allowing the medium to approach dryness briefly between waterings; avoid prolonged saturation at the roots.

Additional Notes

Best grown mounted on cork or tree fern, or in a wide shallow basket with a coarse, open bark mix. Plants are shipped bare root and well-established.
