Bulbophyllum hirundinis

A warm-growing epiphyte from the forests of Southeast Asia, producing compact, dense umbellate inflorescences with numerous simultaneously opening flowers. Each bloom bears extraordinarily elongated, thread-like lateral sepals that hang vertically in tight parallel formation, creating a spectacular pendant fringe crown — one of the most visually arresting inflorescence structures in the genus.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 40–50% shade cloth; avoid direct midday sun to protect the foliage.
  • Temperature: 65–86°F (18–30°C); a warm grower with a minimum tolerance around 60°F (15°C).
  • Humidity: 70–85%; maintain high humidity with strong air movement to keep roots healthy.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the mix to approach dryness between waterings; avoid prolonged saturation at the roots.

Additional Notes

Best grown mounted on cork or in a basket with a coarse bark mix to allow the pendant inflorescences to hang freely and ensure excellent airflow at the roots. Ships bare root, well established.
