Platystele aurea

A neat miniature epiphyte from the Andean cloud forests, bearing solitary flowers on slender, wiry stems held above broad, elliptic leaves. The broad, rounded synsepalum contrasts with the smaller, acuminate dorsal sepal, while the tiny labelo displays distinctive dark spotting — a refined and jewel-like bloom for its diminutive size.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 50–70% shade cloth; avoid direct sun, which can scorch the broad, soft leaves.
  • Temperature: 50–68°F (10–20°C); a Cool grower that thrives with stable cool conditions and good air movement. Minimum 45°F (7°C).
  • Humidity: 70–90%; mount or grow in a fine open mix to maintain excellent airflow around the roots while keeping ambient humidity high.
  • Watering: Water frequently to keep roots evenly moist; avoid prolonged dryness, which the fine root system does not tolerate well.

Additional Notes

Best grown mounted on cork bark or in a small pot with a fine, well-draining mix. Plants are shipped bare root and well-established.
